Note "Etymology: Not known. However, Magelona (feminine) is a 1535 German spelling of the name of a princess (beautiful Magelone, daughter of the King of Naples) who appears in the prose and verse tale "Liebesgeschichte der schönen Magelone und des Grafen Peter von Provence" ((Love-Story of the Beautiful Magelone and Count Peter of Provence). it relates an anonymous Occitan tale dating back to at least the 13th century. [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebesgeschichte_der_sch%C3%B6nen_Magelone_und_des_Grafen_Peter_von_Provence] Thus it is likely that Magelona was in some use as a German girl's name in the 1850s when Müller adopted it , or otherwise known to Müller through encountering the folk-tale. The tale (in German) is available at https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/38239/pg38239-images.html" for taxon Magelona F.
