Note "Taxonomic remark: This genus (and its only species) was originally described as a jellyfish (hence the genus name suffix "medusa"). However it was later revealed to be an inarticulate brachiopod (Chen et al., 1989), and later either a brachiopod of superfamily Craniopsoidea (Jin & Wang, 1992) or family Mickwitziidae (Zhang et al., 2003). More recently Chen et al. (2007), from examination of a large set of new specimens that revealed previously obscured morphology, found that the genus was a brachiopod of family Discinidae." for taxon Heliomedusa Sun & Hou, 1987 † has been added by Tristan Verhoeff via the webinterface on 2024-05-28T09:31:29+00:00
