Note "Etymology: The derivation of Branchiobdella tetrodonta Pierantoni evidently follows the example first set by B. pentadonta Whitman, 1882, who named his species adjectivally for the five jaw teeth. with the ending feminine -a in agreement with feminine Branchiobdella. Pierantoni refers to B. pentadonta. However, Gelder (2024) writes that "as Pierantoni’s intention on its form is not known, it must be treated as a noun in apposition". However, given its form (compound and agreeing with Branchiobdella) and the background, it can only be an adjective. There are several -odonta names in the group and it is common practice to treat them as adjectives, changing suffix when necessary (eg Cambarincola homodonta Yamaguchi, 1932)" for taxon Branchiobdella tetrodonta Pierantoni, 1906 has been added by Geoffrey Read via the webinterface on 2024-05-22T08:52:00+00:00
